A single-station machine designed to check the degree of spheroidization in cast iron castings.

Intended Use

The station is designed to test the spheroidization of cast iron castings using a single-channel ultrasonic testing unit. Before each cycle, a suitable dose of oil is applied to the measuring probe to improve the transmission of ultrasonic waves at the interface between the workpiece and the probe.

The machine is also equipped with a hydraulic cylinder used to break off the feeder after a positive UT inspection result.

How It Works

• the machine is operated by one operator;
• the operator manually loads the part into the machine;
• thanks to the dedicated nest shape, the correct part geometry is verified;
• the UT probe is lowered automatically by means of a pneumatic cylinder;
• after the probe comes into contact with the part, the inspection is performed using the built-in UT unit;
• after a positive UT inspection result, the feeder is broken off using a hydraulic cylinder;
• material residues are disposed of by the operator into a dedicated container.

Machine Design

UT INSPECTION

The machine is equipped with a single-channel ultrasonic testing unit, model SIUI CTS-2020E.

UT PROBE LUBRICATION

The machine is equipped with a Dropsa oil dosing pump. The pump is powered by compressed air. The required oil dose delivered to the probe is set using a pressure regulator and a throttling valve on the pump outlet valve.

FEEDER REMOVAL

A hydraulic cylinder connected to a power pack and a set of solenoid valves is used to break off the feeders. A hardened breaker tip is mounted to the cylinder. The entire assembly is enclosed within a sheet metal structure.

OPERATOR PANEL

The control elements and 7-inch display enable process monitoring and control of individual machine movements. The panel displays all warnings and alarms, part counters, and the status of all machine sensors.

STRUCTURE

The welded steel structure is designed for mounting all modules as well as the electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic power supply equipment.
